Q&A
What is the purpose of the IPI?
The purpose of the IPI data collection profile system was to establish processes for accurately measuring the nature of student engaged learning from various instructional practices across an entire school. Such information, when gathered according to the IPI protocols for data collection, provides a valid picture of learning/instruction across a school or school system.
Could you tell me more about the workshops?
The IPI workshops were strategically designed by Jerry valentine to ensure particpants develop skills to accurately document student engaged learning using the IPI observer coding categories and data collection protocols.
Level I training requires a minimum of 7 hours to complete; usally completed within a single school day. The workshops include opportunities to develop competence in using the IPI instrument to collect observation data and develop IPI profiles, as well as discussions and strategies about how to facilitate the faculty analysis and collaborative problem-solving activities once the profiles are developed.
The IPI workshops include hands-on learning, collaborative verbal learning conversations, authentic practice in a school setting, and a reliability assessment so each participant is clearly aware of their level of competence with the instrument.
Who attends IPI Worshops?
Principal, Central Office Adminstrators, Teachers, Instructional coaches, Team Leaders and councelors.
What are the goals of an IPI Level I workshop?
Develop the capacity to collect accurately school-wide instructional practices data using the IPI observational categories and to do so across observations and among observers.
Develop the capacity to facilitate faculty analysis of the school-wide data profiles and the deep reflective activities necessary for improving student engaged learning.
What is the Goal of an IPI Level II Workshop?
Develop a deeper level of understanding and capacity to engage faculty in the analysis and application of the IPI process for instructional change by analyzing previous experiences and developing strategies that foster long-range school and program analysis and goal setting. When and where are IPI workshops held?
IPI workshops are typically hosted by local school districts or by regional or area educational agencies serving a number of schools and districts. Most IPI training sessions are limited to 30 participants. This limitation ensures that the participants will leave the session with a thorough understanding of the IPI process and the competence to use the IPI process in their local school setting.
Individuals who wish to attend an IPI training may contact Mark to enquire about posibble shared training locations or all ready scheduled workshops.
Who Designed the IPI?
The Instructional Practices Inventory (IPI) was designed by Painter and Valentine in 1995-96 and revised in 2002 and in 2005 by Valentine.
What does the workshop allow me to do?
upon satisfactory completing a reliablity assessment particpants will be endorsed as a data collector for school profile data.
How can I recieve a profile of my school without becoming endored as a data collector?
These type of profiles are usally requested as part of a customized leadership or school improvement consulting package, however schools on occasion may request Mark to secure a data collection team.
